- Canaletto Pinot Noir IGT, Pavia 75cl (Italy)
- This wine has a delicate yet lively ruby colour with aromas of morello cherries and woodland fruit bursting out of the glass. The pickers revisit the vineyards time and time again, only selecting those bunches of grapes at their optimum ripeness. The palate is delicate, with great purity of fruit, and hints of wild cherries. Established in the late 19th Century, Casa Girelli has undergone significant growth over the years, and is now the fourth largest winery in Italy. The Pinot Noir grapes are grown in selected vineyards in the Oltrepo Pavese Hills in Lombardy where they are ripened to perfection in the higher vineyards. The Pinot Noir grapes for Canaletto are kept cool during vinification to enhance depth of colour and aroma extraction. A malolactic fermentation is conducted making the wine rounder and softer. The 2007 vintage was awarded "Commended" at the International Wine Challenge 2008.
